ANCHORMEN, Anchored by Grace
WHAT DOES GOD WANT FROM YOU?
So, you have established your anchor in the truth that God is your true source of rest. Even as you do this, though, you find yourself wondering how this applies to your life here on earth. With increasingly busy schedules, family responsibilities, and work obligations always present, we as men want to know how this practically affects our daily lives. Most of the time, we live under the assumption of what Jesus expects from the way that we live our lives on earth. We need to take some time to look at what Jesus actually says He desires from us.

Obedience.
It begins with childhood and being obedient to our parents, teachers, then spouses and supervisors and law enforcement officials. That's the obedience we all grew up knowing.
God has another definition of OBEDIENCE that's explained in the new covenant teaching in
Galatians 6:5-8 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.
We are focusing on verse 7 here to Serve Wholeheartedly. Not to serve for our self righteousness but from the righteousness that God gave us through Jesus.
Dan Ball and his wife have partnered with a couple groups to serve the needs of the community. Below are the links to organizations that, if led, you too can serve through physically serving and monetarily as well.Check out these websites for more information.

In our walk with God, we often experience moments when our faith is tested. It's in these times that we truly discover what it means to be anchored in faith. Our faith is like a sturdy ship anchored in the harbor. It keeps us grounded when the waves of life toss us around. When we lean on God in His Word, we find the strength to persevere and trust in His plans. The anchormen remind us weekly that Jesus is our anchor, providing stability and assurance in the midst of uncertainty. Together, let's dive deeper into the powerful words that encourage us to hold fast in the faith of Jesus alone and not rely on our good words to gain righteousness. So welcome to uh Inchorman Anchored by Grace. So here we are again, another evening. Uh Todd and I are together, and we're visiting with uh Dan Ball is coming to visit today. Hey D B. DB, Mr. Ball. Yeah. So good to have you, Dan.
SPEAKER_02Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, glad you're here. Thank you. So don't mind me just taking a little drink of water. So Todd, you want to start us with prayer?
SPEAKER_00I will. Yes. Dear Heavenly Father, we just uh thank you for this uh absolutely beautiful day you gave us today. Uh we want to be thankful in all circumstances, and too many times when we get the good things, it's easy to bypass you and just think that it's all about us and it's not. And you know, we we always seem to come to you in the trials and tribulations, but uh we want to say thank you for the air that we breathe, the ability to smell and taste and talk and hear. Um we don't ever want to take that for granted. And uh we thank you for this evening, we thank you for our special guest Dan, and thank you for John and all of his effort that he puts into the podcast. We pray this in Jesus' name, amen. Amen.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, thank you. So tonight we're gonna talk a little bit about the Holy Spirit and obedience to the Holy Spirit, or not what would what was the word that we used earlier? Not obedience to. It was responding, responding, responding to the Holy Spirit calling us, and how do we recognize that? That's maybe one of the things we can talk about too. Um just kind of like let's start off with something that happened in farthest in the past. Uh, about what was that? It was like a year and a half ago now. We went down to North Carolina. A year and a half ago, uh there was a hurricane down in Carolinas. Everybody remembers that. But about, I don't know, might be in a week, a week after that hurricane, we've we heard about all the stories in North Carolina that people were homeless and homes just destroyed, uh, lives taken, rivers washed out, roads washed out, cars and trucks and trees from so much devastation down there. And we've got pictures to prove it. Because of the story that we're about to talk about, uh Todd had a uh a calling from the Holy Spirit to do something. And he gave he called me up and we started talking, and uh I we had started mentioning talking to some of our contacts, and next thing I know, Todd had a I'll let you explain it, Todd, because it transferred to having two or three pallets of water to ship down there. Way more than we expected.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the uh Holy Spirit definitely gave me more than I could chew, that's for sure. And uh I um I ended up what wound up happening is um I had heard all the reports on the radio and TV about things not being done and not getting assistance. And so then I felt the prompting that, you know what, we we should go down there and help. And uh when I say we, it's never me because um I was, as I've always been, concerned about us doing things as a group uh with our anchor bend group, and um, so I brought the idea to you and to the rest of the guys, and everybody seemed to be positive about it, and so then just started posting some things on Facebook, and next thing I knew we had so much stuff going that the vision of driving uh U-Haul down there suddenly became non-existent because of all the stuff that was being donated, and then uh Velpo Nas partnered with us, and then um I got to the end of my rope, I think, because I was trying to do a lot of it on my own and not allowing Jesus take the wheel. And what wound up happening is um I started to cry. I had to pull over to the side of the road and I started to cry, and I said, God, this is way bigger than what I can handle. This was your idea, not mine. You need to take care of this. I'm giving it all to you. And then within five minutes, I was on the phone with a friend, Jeff Fleming, that owns a trucking company, and he in a very calm, low voice, was like talking like this. He's like, Alright, what I'll do is I'll get a trailer set up over at the church. You they'll just tell me where to park it. I'll get a driver, and we'll get everything down there for you guys. And boom. It was like, wow. And then answer prayer. Yeah. We ended up as a community filling up the trailer from top to bottom, front to back. It was unbelievable the amount of stuff that we wound up bringing down there. And uh, but then when we got down there, it was even better to serve and to do what we did down there.
SPEAKER_01And it was it was uh did did you come and help us load that trail? No, I would couldn't make it. Okay, because it was uh just amazing how the church just jumped right in. Um the Valponet has just jumped right in to help us. Yeah, they uh they had people come out and volunteer. Yeah, we had packages and uh from all over the area, yeah, people that wanted to help. And not only were Gary getting deliveries at the church, getting deliveries at his house, different places, like all of a sudden everyone's just bringing stuff to the church. And the church opened up its doors to say you guys can store it all here until you're ready to load it.
SPEAKER_00And then they wrapped stuff there, exactly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they had it on. It was amazing how they all just jumped in. And we must have had 30, 30 people loading that trailer and from inside carrying it out and getting it up. We even had somebody out there with uh uh like a forklift to lift it up and put it in the trailer for us.
SPEAKER_00We met Mike, Michael Foley, who volunteered from the church, and then I wound up saying to him, like, you know what? He said, You should come down with us. Do you got anything going on? He goes, you know what's funny? I was actually just thinking about that. And he wound up coming down with us and had a great time, and yeah, that's and then Craig, who we were hoping was gonna be here on the podcast with us, uh, somebody that I went to high school with, he's a year older than me, he reached out to me and he's like, Hey, you got any room? He goes, I feel in a calling to go down there with you guys. And I'm like, uh, I don't know, let me check. And we had room, and next thing you know, he came with us. And we knew of each other, but we didn't know each other. And he's married to somebody that I did know. He went down with us, and now, even though he doesn't live in the area, he watches on Facebook almost every Thursday our Facebook Live. Nice.
SPEAKER_02So that's that right there. That's that's the body of Christ at work right there.
SPEAKER_01Amazing. It is, it really is. And that's where like like Todd gave it up. You know, Todd, I I can't I can't do it. No, you called me to do this, I'm obedient, I got it rolling. Yeah, but I yeah, he just had to stop and give it over. And it and he took it from there. It was amazing, it really was.
SPEAKER_00And isn't it ironic how much you get blessed when you're trying to bless other people and do the things and allow God to just live live through you, how much you end up getting blessed. Oh, yes. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we've we've done that with, you know, for 500 turkeys, we do that. We've done that with the night to shine. We've we've gone that. Even the littlest things, like we get together uh at Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter, and we would take a meal over to the hospice and we'd take a meal to them. Uh it it got to that, like it's little things like that, but you feel so in you feel so good after doing it because you know you're helping or giving to somebody or serving somebody. It's just amazing. It's just so good. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I think what what's really cool too is I think like Willigus, um, I think about them being obedient to their calling, and you know, us helping them out a little bit financially by giving them money back when they had they're like their first person that they were trying to help.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And um, and then how something birthed out of that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And now, you know, I'm excited to hear about your stuff, Dan, and and what and how that all transpired because there's obviously need for all of this stuff. Yeah, there is. Yeah, sure is. So I don't know, would you mind mind sharing with us what uh what happened, what you guys have started, and well, I mean you mentioned uh the Woguses and you're talking about the harbor, uh, right, with the uh with the home for uh single moms.
SPEAKER_02Right. Um and uh you know there there's a whole story that that goes on with that. Um what's what is interesting is how God moves. And it was a year and a half ago when uh I was changing jobs, and my wife, Monica, had been um, she had been getting nudgings, you know, from the Holy Spirit. She wasn't happy where she was working at. Um she felt she needed to do more. And uh, but she didn't know what that meant, what it looked like. And and you know, I and I was encouraging her to just you know keep keep your eyes and ears open, you know, whatever God's gonna present to you. Um and then and then he came along and presented an opportunity for her to go to uh BCH, which is uh uh bring children hope.
SPEAKER_01And you say he, you mean uh Randy?
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, I'm talking I'm talking about God.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Holy Spirit came to the case.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that in that direction through through people, through through through people that are also obedient to the legends. And um and then is that the one that Craig Freiburger is at? Yes, that's what Craig Craig is in charge, he's the CEO over there. Yep, yep. A great organization. Um and and so she started working there, and at the same time I started working at the courthouse uh here in downtown Velpo, uh working court security, and our our lives started to intersect in a way we couldn't have even imagined, you know, through through people that I see coming through the courthouse who are in need of help and services, um, through working with some of the people that are there through the county and with the halfway houses and homeless shelters and whatnot. But for Monica to get partnered up with one of our dearest friends, the Wilguses, um, and Monica's job as a family care advocate to be helping families, and in particular single moms, um, and then to partner up with Wilguses in the harbor and their project to uh buy a house where these single moms who are um in need of a time to reset their lives. And for for that for that to happen, and for Monica's position and where she's at, they partnered up. And and I say they they, I mean, it really is more than just a couple of people. It's it's a it's a community of people. Sure it is, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um you can't do it, two people, can't you?
SPEAKER_02No, you can't, no, you can't. And just just like you couldn't have taken all a truckload of needed goods down to North Carolina. Um, and you have to say, okay, Lord, I need help. You know, bring bring me the help.
SPEAKER_00And uh and they Which is what we're not accustomed to asking for.
SPEAKER_02Oh, amen. Amen. Especially men. We're not accustomed to asking for help. No. Um but so I have I have been on this journey along with my wife and our dear friends, like I said, the boguses, um, in uh identifying and helping these single moms. And uh and I can tell you, it's just it's it's amazing, it's absolutely amazing to see some of these women that have been uh emotionally, physically, um, verbally, financially abused and um undeserved, obviously, and and it's like okay, th they don't even know where to find help, and then when they we tell them, or they tell them, you know, well, this is what we can do, and this is what we're gonna do, um they are floored. They're like, wait a minute, all these people want to help me, you know, and you talk about the blessing, the reward you get by helping others. Oh my goodness. It's you know, when you when you see and hear a mom just you know, thank you and crying, and the kids, you know, getting a Christmas for the first time in how many years, um, getting a home, getting a place to stay. Um yeah, it's truly amazing. Clothes and food. Clothes and toys and food, absolutely. You know, vouchers for things. Um and then, of course, you know, what my wife does is she she does, she works with them, and then she helps set up um other charities that are gonna help these women, obviously. Um, one of the things that that you know I was involved in with helping was uh they took an area of the where my wife works, and it's now called the Hope Hub. Um and it's an area for for these uh single moms to get parenting classes they can watch while the kids are playing in the playroom. There's a place for the kids and the moms to get clothing if they need clothing and food and toys. And it's just and and we help build that. And and and being able to say, yeah, I can I can nail a hammer and I can, you know, I can run a screwdriver and I can help build this, and it's beautiful, and it's absolutely amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so and if uh anybody that's listening knows of somebody that may need help, yeah. And I we didn't ask you to come out there to give a shameless commercial. No, do it, let's do it. But let's how can they contact DCH, you said? B BCH. BCH. BCH, yep, yep. What does BCH stand?
SPEAKER_02Bring bring children home, or bring in children home.
SPEAKER_01Bringing children home, okay. Yep. How would anybody be able to get in touch with BCH?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you just they have a Facebook page, they have a website, okay. Um, all the information is there.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02Um they can absolutely go and and same with the harbor. Um, they have a Facebook page and a website as well, and and they do fundraisers to they've got an apartment right now, but they're still working towards the goal of uh a house where they can where they can house several moms, you know. Right. Um and they can they can be there safe and and secure and help them get reset.
SPEAKER_01Isn't that beautiful? It is just beautiful, it is, and it it like you said, it takes a community of people. It does, and not even just your day-to-day activities and you know, day-to-day things, yeah, procedures, it takes more than just two people.
SPEAKER_00And also, isn't that kind of ironic when you think about a situation like that that it is also similar to what we talked about last week where we talked about spiritual gifts, where you know, you were able to do uh you know, hammer and nails. Um a lot of other people maybe can't do that like me, and maybe they would give financially. Yeah, and you have other people that maybe they can teach um them how to become a mom, and you know, it and that's the community, that's the Holy Spirit, that's all the body coming together as one. Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it is.
SPEAKER_01Oh, beyond that, I can't imagine how uh you know, Randy was kind of like let his wife do it, do it, do it. And all of a sudden, when it started taking off, he goes, I gotta help her. He just like he's all in, he's all in to help her 100% now. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Which is it's beautiful to see that.
SPEAKER_02It's it's well it's it's a whole it's a family thing. I mean, it's the whole family involved in in then families, you know, friends of family and fa other family members, and yeah, it goes it goes.
SPEAKER_00Was it one of the daughters that really had the initial yes, yes.
SPEAKER_02She had uh she knew somebody that yeah, Court Courtney uh has a degree in social work, and uh they she had uh reached out and was helping a mom a couple years ago, and uh it was from that that this kind of sparked.
SPEAKER_00And that's who we had helped as a group.
SPEAKER_02Yes, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna pause right here and pick it up next week in part two of our message about obeying the call or being obedient to the call of the Holy Spirit. Thanks uh again for Dan Ball joining us. Each one of us has our own experience with obeying the call. And uh come back next week and hear more about uh how we did that and how we were obedient and responded to being called by the Holy Spirit. Talk to you next week. Anger man angered by grace.
