ANCHORMEN, Anchored by Grace
WHAT DOES GOD WANT FROM YOU?
So, you have established your anchor in the truth that God is your true source of rest. Even as you do this, though, you find yourself wondering how this applies to your life here on earth. With increasingly busy schedules, family responsibilities, and work obligations always present, we as men want to know how this practically affects our daily lives. Most of the time, we live under the assumption of what Jesus expects from the way that we live our lives on earth. We need to take some time to look at what Jesus actually says He desires from us.

HOLY SPIRIT LEADS YOU WHERE GOD NEEDS YOU
Whether you are feeling led to serve, teach, organize, feed others, donate time, money effort, when you do all these and many many more, you are being obedient to the Holy Spirit leading you.
Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Dan Ball, Todd, John, and Bob and all the Anchormen can all testify as to being obedient. Can you?
We discuss the opportunities that we each have been led to and how we responded.
The 3 opportunities Dan speaks of in this subject are linked in the following paragraph. Looking for an opportunity to reach out to help or know someone need help, use these links for more information on each.

In our walk with God, we often experience moments when our faith is tested. It's in these times that we truly discover what it means to be anchored in faith. Our faith is like a sturdy ship anchored in the harbor. It keeps us grounded when the waves of life toss us around. When we lean on God and His Word, we find the strength to persevere and trust in His plans. The anchormen remind us weekly that Jesus is our anchor, providing stability and assurance in the midst of uncertainty. Together, let's dive deeper into the powerful words that encourage us to hold fast in the faith of Jesus alone and not rely on good words to be in righteousness. Picking up exactly where we left off last week with Dan Ball on being obedient to God. And if you missed any of it, I encourage you to go back and listen to part one of this message. It was so good that uh two is not a standalone message. It just blends in perfectly with one part one. So go back and listen, and I think you'll enjoy it. But here's the rest of our uh podcast on obedience with Dan Ball.
SPEAKER_01So then and then and then beyond that, in the last year and a half, Monica and I have also partnered up with uh Hans and Lisa Scheller with their organization, uh Healing Through Human Connection, and we have been uh helping them and assisting them and supporting them in many different ways. And then last year, Hans came to us and said, We're doing this program called Trauma Reboot Recovery. And I didn't know, never heard of it, didn't know anything about it. And he wanted Monica and I to help facilitate this class, a 12-week class. So we looked into it and uh we said, Yeah, absolutely. You know, we we found out some you know we did research on it.
SPEAKER_02When you got the information and you and you looked it up, yeah, what nudged you to do yes?
SPEAKER_01So uh one of the things that really nudged me was right off the bat, um, this organization, Trauma Reboot, they said everybody is wounded. Okay, everybody has a wound. The difference is some people have faced their wounds, they have identified their wounds, and then they have worked through their wounds in a healthy positive way. Some people don't. They don't even acknowledge them, and they're and they are they are unresolved wounds. And one of the things that I have been working on in my life over the last several years is uh unresolved wounds, you know. I I I've I've mentioned this to a lot of people that I I've read uh John Aldridge's book uh Wild at Heart. One of his chapters is about the wound uh that we all have. We're all we all have it. Anybody who says they're not wounded, they just haven't recognized it. There's a wound. And it may not be as deep, but there's something that needs to be uh recognized and reconciled. And so that's what caught me first. The other thing was um this organization is you know, they're accredited and they've got uh all the backing uh that what they've been doing. And so we jumped on board with them and we did our first class last fall, uh, and it was just amazing. Absolutely amazing. There were there were barriers broken down, there were you know crumbled walls, um, there was reconciliation in within families, and uh we had 10 graduates after the first class, and uh and and I can tell you, we as a facilitator, along with Hansalisa got uh and and and uh Angie, uh the other facilitator, we got so much out of it, as much as the students did, and the participants did, and it was just incredible, just incredible. And and we have taken that now to the the trauma reboot organization has other courses that they that they do. Um there's a marriage class that we did in February on Valentine's Day weekend, and we're doing another one in October for uh Sweetest Day weekend, and they do a military and a first responder trauma recovery, which first responder, of course, is near and dear to my heart because I've been in law enforcement for almost 40 years, and so Monica and I approached Hans and Lisa and said, Hey, can we do the first responder uh trauma reboot? And he said, Absolutely, we 100% support. Wow. So we are graduating our first three first responder trauma recovery people in three weeks. Wow, nice. And uh yeah, it's been it's been an amazing ride. And I really enjoy the course, but I enjoy more getting to know other people and hearing their stories and seeing the the recovery that goes on, you know, because you don't you wonder, you know, you don't know is this having an effect at all, you know. I mean are we making a uh progress out of this? Yeah, making a difference. And and you see it, and it's and it's and it's like amazing to to watch somebody finally address their own trauma.
SPEAKER_02You never really see any progress unless you know that person. Yeah I mean you can't you can just look at them and say, well, maybe they're recovered, maybe they're not, blah, blah, blah. But until you know that person, know where they've started, yeah, and where they got, well, you see growth and change in that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00How does somebody find out about the classes that are available and when they go on? Where where is that information available?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so healing through human connection, you can go to their Facebook page, uh, is the best way. Okay. And you can contact Lisa Sheller, her email address is on there. And and they're advertising their classes all the time through there. Uh just you know, join or follow the Facebook page and and you'll see. And we get and we've got some fun stuff. I should say, we, you know, that it's Hans and Lisa's uh baby, but um, they've got a trivia night coming up in September, and um they have classes for young teens now that they're that they're promoting. Um and everything's faith-based. That's that's the other beautiful thing, is that everything is faith-based. It's all um everything in Christ and through Christ, and recognizing that God is in charge and there's a and and that healing comes through our faith. Um, that we cannot we cannot simply uh do it ourselves. We can't do it in a secular way, but if we want to find true healing, it's got to come through Christ.
SPEAKER_00Sounds like Hans has settled in and found his mission and purpose in life.
SPEAKER_01Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah, he uh he and Lisa you know make a first of all, they make a great pair, they're a great couple, uh, but um they make great business partners too, they're doing a great job. Yeah, love those two dearly.
SPEAKER_02So the the program that you're in, uh okay, there's two programs we're talking about here.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, several programs. Two that are active right now.
SPEAKER_02The two that that you're involved in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Are they all just local Northwest Indiana? Or is it okay? So it's not like statewide or uh nationwide.
SPEAKER_01And in our trauma, our trauma recovery group is the first that I that we're aware of in the state of Indiana that's ever existed.
SPEAKER_02So when when you were looking at the information for it, where did that information come from? Uh was it a national organization that's leading it? That's it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so so trauma reboot recovery is actually an international organization. Okay. They they start they do a military one, uh 12-week military course, and that's really where they got started, is when they started uh at military bases dealing with PTSD. Okay. Uh with our uh our heroes and our warriors. Uh, and and it was from there that they developed this program, and they developed it to, like they said, the first responders and then a regular trauma, uh, trauma reboot course.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's just it's interesting because like like like you said, Dan, everyone has wounds, right? It's how do we how have we dealt with them? Have we buried them? Have we dealt with them? Have we gone through them? And the trauma of going through those wounds? Yeah, have we resolved those wounds? Yeah, it's it's amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because if if you don't deal with it, it's just going to continue to control your life. Yeah and and when you recognize it and you face it head on and you and you do it through your faith, um, now you can work through it, and now you control it. Right.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00I uh I'd like to read uh a few scriptures about speaking directly or listening and following, being guided by the Holy Spirit. John 14, 26 says, But the advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. And then John 16, 13 says, But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own, he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. And then Revelation 3.6 says, Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. And um so I just, you know, because we always try to make sure that we have scripture with with what it is that we're talking about. John, you've you've got a similar story as well with your amputee group.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's it's uh yeah, because of trauma, you know, there was uh a loss, and and uh people might not think it, but amputation is a loss. Yeah. Uh it's part of your person, you lose, you lose a limb. Whether it be uh you know even a finger, it's part of your life that you've had, your life. And yeah, the the calling that I had was uh when I was in the hospital after my amputation, I did not know it was happening. Uh you guys both know the story, but maybe some listeners don't. I didn't know what was going on. I I woke up and next thing I know, I was told that I didn't have part of my limb. And and I just like, okay. And I wasn't angry, I wasn't upset. I just like and that was when I I really felt the Holy Spirit keeping me, comforting me, comforting me, is what I would really say. Sure. Because he, you know, he just kind of I'm here. Say what you need to say. Are you angry? No, I wasn't angry. Are you upset? I said, I'm upset. I was more confused. What am I gonna do? God, where did you brought me here? And I was more I was more leaning on God, you brought me here and where are you gonna take me next? I don't have any control over what happened. I can only be obedient to where you take me. And through a series of uh recovery and rehabilitation and learning how to walk, getting a prosthetic leg, a lot of funny things happened, but a lot of serious things happened. Uh a year of, well, I would say uh eight months went by, and I knew I needed to reach out to somebody. I really felt that I needed to reach out to somebody that's gone through this. So I was looking for support groups. And I know they have them for people that are blind, and people that are have cancer, and people that have gone through uh women that have gone through miscarriages. They have support groups for a lot of people. And I'm looking for an amputee support group. And there was one, I live in Valparaiso, and there was one about 50 miles away, 40 miles away in Munster. And uh knowing my situation, I don't drive, so I had to get somebody to drive me out there. I went once, I went twice, and I go, this is crazy, having me having to depend on somebody to to take me there once a month. And that all came back to so, John, what are you gonna do? Start your own. And I go, I don't know how to do that. I'm gonna show you. Holy Spirit showed me, led me to the people I needed to talk to. Four months later, I started a support group. I went worked with the library here in Valpo, then a beautiful organization to help. I was told so many times that uh you're gonna go to this support group, you're gonna sit in there. You may sit in the library by yourself for six months for every time you have a meeting. And uh I said, but be be ready, be patient. So I went first day I went there, I opened it up and I put it out on Facebook, you know, got the page all set up, everything ready to go. I walk in there, and uh, you know, 9:30 to whatever it was at the time, somebody walks in. I go, What? I said, this is a Holy Spirit moment, man. I was like, what? How did you hear about us? I I was like, I was floored. I was floored, guys. And uh he said, Well, I happen to look at uh on Facebook and looking for a support group, and here you are. I says, Well, when did you do that? He goes, Oh, I don't know, Thursday. And I'll be darned if that's when I posted it on Facebook. I was like, on Thursday. Wow. So if if it would have been one day later, he would have never seen it. Yeah. And for there it's been nine years later. It's it's been nine years now.
SPEAKER_01And and you know what I hear when I hear stories like that is you could have easily said, Well, that support group's too far away, I can't go, it's too much burden on somebody else to take me. Yeah, that's it, I'm done. No. You you are are are tapped into the Holy Spirit living inside of you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And so when the Holy Spirit said, Hey, there's another way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, isn't it? You heard it. Isn't it also though for the people that that may be listening to this in the future? Isn't it also important to let them know, you know what, it's okay to be a little afraid or a little scared of because it's the unknown, not knowing what's to come, what am I gonna have to do? Who else is gonna help me? Am I on my own? Is this gonna work? Is this not gonna work? And you know, it the biggest thing that I think that all of us can be in agreement with is just have faith and trust. Yeah. Have faith and trust that what the Holy Spirit's guiding you into is for God's benefit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. You know, when I'm I'm big on obedience because uh in my obedience I have been blessed so many ways. But when when the Holy Spirit leads you to do something, and and if you'd have asked me two years ago, I'd be leading a trauma or uh facilitating a trauma recovery group, I'd said you're crazy. If you would have asked me two years ago that I'd be in a courthouse uh sharing the gospel with somebody who's facing uh a tough time because they've got a court battle going on, I'd have said you're crazy. You know? But God leads you to, and the Holy Spirit leads you to where they need you. And the obedience comes in, okay, God, I don't know what you've got in store for me. I don't know why I'm here or why you put me in this place, but I will be your servant no matter where I stand, no matter where I am. And and what you will find is the amazing uh influence and the amazing uh blessing too. Blessings that you have upon people. Um and then you begin to see God's plan. You know, he'll you'll get a little inkling, and you say, Okay, God, I see what you're doing now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then I think it's important to understand that as this goes on in life, I feel that God is going to give you more and more after you do it. It's it's sort of like a the construction job where once you learn how to do stuff, you get a promotion. And then you know, and and so I feel that that God does give you more to handle because you have just faith and you just do it.
SPEAKER_01Not only that, but he's building the disciple in you by doing that. You remember you remember Christ said that the disciples out two by two, with and they were like, we can't do any of the stuff you do. We don't even know what to say. And he said, Don't take even anything with you, just go, and and I will take care of you. And they came back stronger and they came back uh more convinced, yes, and and better and blessed, and better for it. And you know, that's what God does still does today. It's you know, our God never changes, He still does that to each of us today. He says, This is what I want you to do, um, and you will be blessed, and you will grow as a disciple. And it's amazing how much easier it is, you know, you go from being afraid to sharing your faith to just talking to a stranger and saying, Yeah, yeah, have you ever heard about Christ and what he can do to people?
SPEAKER_00Give me a robe and sandals.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Well, I I think it's just amazing because we look at, we want to reach a hundred people. But God says, Don't try to reach the stars. Yeah. Take it one at a time. One at a time. One at a time. That's all you need, the person in front of you or the person next to you, or be a you know, like you've got Monica, two of you are doing it, going out and discipling others. But you know, you're serving, you're doing that. And everything that you're touching, you're we're touching in in small groups. We don't need a hundred people, we don't need a thousand people. Yeah. Uh you know, all the people that listen to Jesus talk on a mountainside, 98% of them walked away. They didn't become believers. Yeah, 98% of them walk away. And he still is talking to his.
SPEAKER_01And not only that, but I can I can think back to people that have been a great faith influence in my life. And it was the one-on-one that we had. Yes. It was the it was the one-on-one experience and encouragement and uh influence that that person had in my life. It wasn't that I attended a meeting with a thousand other men, and that changed me. That's happened, and I've had a you know, I've been to those uh conferences and I've enjoyed them and had a great time and shared memories, but it was the one-on-one conversations with the guy next to me, it was the one-on-one conversations in the parking lot afterwards that relationships you built. The relationships that you build, and and that's where that's where change happens, that's where transformation happens.
SPEAKER_02Exactly right. And uh that's happened at the 220 conference when we went down there. It wasn't about going to listen to these dynamic speakers that have been speaking everywhere, it's the little relationships we we built down there. Yeah, absolutely amazing, amazing. Yeah, well, guys, this has been amazing. I love it. This is how the Holy Spirit works, right? Amen. A little bit at a time. Just like what you and I and Kevin getting together on Monday. So it's been wonderful. I just a little that couple group like that, just like that, and get you know, you get together and it's yeah, it just makes me think of that.
SPEAKER_01It's helped sustain you throughout the week, sure it does.
SPEAKER_02It does, yeah. But um, yeah, thank you guys for uh being part of this, and thank you guys, everybody, for listening. I'm gonna wrap up this episode. Um Dan, you want to close us on prayer? Sure can. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Heavenly Father, uh, we just thank you so much for being uh giving us the Holy Spirit. Uh, and the Spirit is alive in each of us. Uh, Father, we know that uh through uh through the Holy Spirit you work through us and in us so that we may share the gospel and share the good news with others. Father, we just ask that we just can continue to be your faithful servant and that you continue to bring people in each of our lives that uh are seeking you or need you uh that we can uh be the Bible that sometimes the only Bible that they read is is who we are and our behavior, our character, and that it exemplifies those of Christ. So Father, we just thank you so much, and we thank you for this opportunity to come together and talk and share, and hopefully somebody listening to this uh will reach out uh because either they or somebody they know needs help. And there is plenty of people that are willing to help or want to help. And so, Father, we just ask that you bring them into our lives. Father, we thank you for this time together. We thank you for all these men. I pray all this in Jesus' name. Amen.
SPEAKER_02Amen. Thanks everybody for listening. Catch up and after that.
